Accurate design of an ethical marquise diamond and recycled platinum ring

The first step...

Have a think about what you would like, any ideas you have on metal choice, stone colour and shapes, any design influences and inspirations you feel an affinity to- be they from architecture or nature or simply other jewellery you have seen and like. It is just as useful to know what you don’t like. This is also a good time to think about your budget, we like to have an idea from the beginning of what you feel comfortable spending on a ring, so that we can make sure our suggestions and designs stay firmly within your budget. Try to collect some images that reflect your ideas and email them to us, Mahailia can then emailyou to develop these further orwe can arrange a telephone appointment to chat through your design ideas at a time that suits you. If you live near by we can arrange to meet locally or you can visit us on Kintyre.

The design process...

Mahailia will then create designs based on your ideas and budget- sometimes you may have a very clear idea of what you would like and need only one sketch, or you may need lots ofinitial sketch ideas to find the exact design. More often than not Mahailia will produce designs in 3D using our CAD programme- though for some designs hand drawn sketches can be more appropriate. Once you have seen the initial designs we will work together to hone your ideas down to something you are completely happy with, often then producing a final sketch of several views of your jewellery from different angles. We can also produce photo real ‘virtual’ images of your jewellery for you. Once you approve the final sketch we will start making your jewellery. Your jewellery is made...

More often than not your jewellery will be produced from the CAD design, it is printed in wax as a 3D model, and then cast in 100% recycled metals.  In some cases it is more appropriate to make your jewellery entirely by hand. We will source the most ethical and beautiful gemstones we can for your jewellery, from our gem suppliers who help us search for the perfect stone for your jewellery- even if this means having one cut especially for you. If your jewellery has complex engraving or stone setting it will be sent to one of our stone setting and engraving master crafts-men in Glasgow or London. Your piece will then be hand finished in our workshop, and sent to the assay office in Edinburgh to be hallmarked.
