Sometimes a client can have a very clear vision of the ring they need to be created.
Olly got in touch in April with ideas for a ring to incorporate a Ceylon sapphire that he obtained from Sri Lanka a few years ago. He provided really clear sketches and examples of rings he liked the look of elsewhere. It was just a matter of bringing the ideas together for the final design.
This was such a good starting point for Mahailia to develop the design and bring it to a working model. The following are all digital renders of the design that give a life like, idea of the finished ring...
Olly received these designs and they were just what he was looking for;
"They look great!! It's very exciting to see it in colour as well - it gives a much better impression of what it will actually look like!
I understand the images are more 'perfect' than the ring will actually be. Is it possible for the overall finish to still be quite a smooth glossy shine over the detail rather than the hammered finish? I absolutely agree with the stones following the shape of the ring - it's got a lovely shape like that, and the four claws on the sapphire look great. You have done a lovely job of getting the vines to flow nicely into the shank as well."
The next stage was the making of the ring. Here are some more images of the finished piece...
The ring was finished, packaged and waiting for Olly to come and collect. As ever, it is great to meet the person we are making a ring for so we were delighted that he could come and pick up the ring in person.
After a while we then got the following email from Olly in response...
"Hi Mahailia, I wanted to let you know that things went really well - Bobbie said yes and loves the ring!! :D She had no idea that I would be proposing so it came as a complete surprise, which was great. And she absolutely loves the ring!!!! As I said at the time, you did a truly fantastic job of incorporating everything I was looking for and the ring is everything I had hoped it would be. She couldn't believe I'd had the sapphire for 2 years, and she really likes the woven vines, the thorn-like stone settings and the way that you can see them from the front through the stone, as well as the floral detail of the vines coming down on to the ring itself. Thank you again for all your hard work and time you put into the ring, I really appreciate it. She loves that it was made in Scotland as well and really likes your work ethos of using reused metals.
Best wishes to you and your family for the future, and thank you again for your hospitality when I came to collect the ring at such short notice - I'm sorry if it seemed such a fleeting visit - I had to get back before Bobbie finished work to avoid suspicion! Haha! Thank you again, kind Regards, Olly."
Many thanks & best wished to Olly & Bobbie!
